When it rains it pours … and that’s not always a bad thing!
April has been full of its share of rainy days – and I’m learning that’s not exactly a bad thing. My family at Free Haven Farms (you HAVE to check them out), has a system for harvesting the rain water so that it can be used to nourish the vegetables they grow. Micaiah explained that using rainwater is better for plants because it doesn’t contain the harsh chemicals that are often found in our tap water. Heavy rains are actually a blessing because, in times when it’s really hot, and the plants are thirsty, they have something good to drink. The more rain they collect, the happier the plants are (and me, too, because they have the most amazing kale!).
As a person of faith, I believe our emotional storms have the same effect. We may not realize it, but the lessons we learn in the storms of life help to sustain us. They give us the blueprint for how to navigate and grow. If we never had rainy days, we would not likely appreciate the sun when it shines. And that, my friends, is why I’m changing how I see the rain.
2024 has already been full of so many highs and lows. Getting my latest project into print has been a ROUGH journey. But we’re set for a signing event at a local bookstore that I love! I’ve never done anything like it, so I’m excited … and a bit nervous.
The cyberattack on Change Healthcare caused a SIGNIFICANT disruption in our cash flow (like we didn’t get paid for months). BUT I was able to take on some contracts that helped me cover operating expenses. Not only that, it led to the launch of my consulting practice.
That’s life. Good and bad. Highs AND lows. You can’t have one without the other.
With all this rain we’ve been having, growth in nature is inevitable – grass, flowers, vegetables (can you tell I am excited about fresh veggies from Free Haven?) – but personal growth is a choice. Will you choose to be nourished by the storms, or will you continue to curse them?
I’m learning to be nourished by them —and it’s a process, trust me—and there are so many awesome projects popping up as a result.
Come grow with me!
Stay safe & be well,
Dr. J
